No. Download it, sign in with Google, and the first 50 files it handles are free. It asks for the $7 once those are gone, and nothing you already had done gets undone.

Does it change what's inside my files?
No. waypost only ever changes a file's name, which folder it sits in, and its Finder tag. It never edits the contents, never converts anything, and never deletes a file.
Can I use it on more than one Mac?
One Mac at a time. Signing in on another Mac moves your licence across, so you're never buying it twice, but it won't run on two at once.
Does the file extension ever change?
Never. A .pdf stays a .pdf. Only the words in front of the extension get rewritten, so nothing stops opening in the app it always opened in.
What if a file with that name already exists?
waypost adds a number to the end and leaves the original alone. It will not overwrite a file that's already there.
Will it keep renaming the same file over and over?
No. It marks each file once it's dealt with, and the mark travels with the file, so moving or renaming it yourself doesn't make waypost start again.
What happens to files it can't make sense of?
It leaves them exactly as they are. A file with nothing to go on keeps its name rather than getting a guess.
Does it ever use the internet?
Only to check for a new version, and to turn a photo's GPS coordinates into a place name. Your files themselves are never sent anywhere.
Will it slow my Mac down?
It works through one file at a time in the background, and there's a pause button in the menu bar for when you want the machine entirely to yourself.
Does it work on an external drive?
Yes. Point it at any folder you like, on your Mac or on a drive you plug in.
Is it a subscription?
No. Free for the first 50 files, then $7 once, updates included, yours forever.
